CNC Mill

This project uses a handfull of hardware store parts and a set of 3 stepper motors to create a CNC router. It is just a project which I started some time ago and felt compelled to finish it, even though my interests have drifted.

The bearings for this project (X & Y axis) are drawer slides. The Z axis uses bronze bushings riding on stell rods. You'll see that the X axis (bottom) has a bearing to keep the all-threaded rod from pushing against the stepper motor. The Z axis has one also but is hidden in these pictures. The reason I mention this is because it the Y axis does not have a bearing to support the threaded rod, and the slop in the Y axis is considerable. Its the weak point right now.

Some additional information about this project:
  • Stepper motors are powered by a PC power supply
  • Software: TurboCNC
  • Operating System: Freedos
  • Cutter: Dremel with assorted bits
